Student Org Advising

Advising is Important and Rewarding

As the advisor of a student organization, you are a very important role model and mentor for students at UW-Stout. We want to help you succeed just like our students. Check out the listed responsibilities Student Organization Advisors have and the resources we offer.

Stay Aware of the Organization

It's important to be aware of the activities and events the student organization is planning and hosting. Attend general meetings, executive board meetings, and events to be more connected to your student organization

Know the Organization's Finances

As the advisor, you serve as an authorized contact for all on-campus financial agencies and foundation accounts. Assist your student organization's Treasurer with monitoring budgeting and funds.

Help Your Organization Make Decisions

Help your Student Organization make the best decisions, whether with leading parliamentary procedure or providing them with options.

Connect with Your Officers

As an Advisor, you are a mentor for incoming student officers and outgoing student officers. Meet with your officers of the student organization on a regular basis to discuss upcoming meetings, long-term plans, goals, and issues that arise with the organization. We also recommend you participate in their training and transitions to feel connected.

Know the Code of Conduct

By knowing the policies and procedures of our campus, you can help your student officers by explaining important practices and regulations. Inform your organization's members of inappropriate behaviors and the consequences that can occur.

Refer to the Agreement Form

Every organization is required to complete the Advisor Agreement form on an annual basis which outlines these responsibilities and other important tasks for the advisor. Advisors will be emailed each fall with more information and the form.

Do you need to change Advisors?

That's easy!  Student officers can update their group page in CONNECT and add their new advisor.

1. Go to Group Page --> Dashboard --> Officers -->Add Officer
2. Deselect the box "Active Officer" under the outgoing advisor
