Student Org Code of Conduct

It's Simple....Follow the Rules

The Stout Student Association (SSA) provides the stamp of approval for every student organization at UW-Stout. This makes your student organization official, and gives you access to Involvement Center support and SSA funding. To maintain your status an as official student organization, you must follow the student organization code of conduct.

Let's Break it Down for You

Please view the official document above for more details. Below are your requirements and responsibilities in brief. Read them, become familiar with them, and honor them. Remember: You are representing UW-Stout in all that you do.

Don't Discriminate

As required by Regent Policy 30-06, recognized student organizations must not discriminate against membership.

Follow the Law

Student organizations can be held liable in the appropriate adjudicating courts. Follow all university, local, state, and federal laws/ordinances to avoid legal issues. If facing legal investigation, do not knowingly make false statements, whether orally or in writing. Always tell the truth.

Advertise your Events Properly

Whether it's posters, digital signage, or social media, there are guidelines to follow when you advertise your event. Follow the university guidelines and policies listed here.

You're Liable

You and the members of your student organization will be held accountable (financially and legally) for all activities and damages that occur during your events and activities.

No Hazing. Ever

Hazing is illegal in every form. You will face legal consequence for supporting, participating in, and/or conducting any form of hazing, regardless of when or where.

Release your Financial Information

If requested, SSA can request your organization's financial information from all on-campus accounts and off-campus accounts. Treat your funds with respect and ethically.

Re-Register and Maintain your Constitution

You must re-register your student organization every year and follow the steps to ensure your organization stays active. Complete the form, have a representative attend Leadership Summit, and make your organization's Constitution edits.

Your constitution is made by you and your fellow officers to guide and maintain your values and missions. Follow the rules you've set in your constitution.

Work with Recognized Organizations

We love when student organizations collaborate together. However, make sure the student organizations you work with are officially recognized. Furthermore, don't affiliate yourselves with organizations that have been placed on probation or suspension.

Abide by the UW-Stout Alcohol Policy

Stay Safe. Review this visual of the alcohol policy.

If you are hosting your event on campus with alcohol present, you can read more information here. Remember that you will need to purchase your alcohol through dining services for on-campus events. If you wish to have alcohol present at an off-campus event, make sure to have a vendor with the proper license to sell alcohol.

What happens if you break the Code of Conduct?

Investigations and other legal processes will begin. SSA has the Committee for Organization Conduct Oversight (COCO) and University Court to investigate and adjudicate all student org concerns.
