Frequently Asked Questions

What is Car Free Week?

Car Free Week is UW-Stout's celebration of a Week Without Driving. This week on campus we highlight some of the ways you can get around without a car. We also try to highlight the health, environmental, and financial benefits of choosing more sustainable forms of transportation.

What are some of the health benefits of not driving?

Choosing not to drive can boost your health by increasing physical activity, reducing stress, and improving air quality. Walking, biking, or using public transit helps keep you active and supports overall mental and physical well-being.

What are some of the financial benefits of not driving?

Not driving a car can save you a lot of money by cutting out fuel, maintenance, insurance, parking, and car payments. Walking, biking, or using public transit is often much cheaper and more predictable in cost over time.

What are some of the environmental benefits of not driving?

Choosing not to drive a car helps the environment by reducing air pollution, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, saving natural resources, and lowering noise and water pollution. It’s a simple way to shrink your carbon footprint and protect the planet.

Strive for 5

Walk, bike, or commute to campus using a non-greenhouse gas method at least five times a month to be eligible for a Strive for Five drawing for $10 in Chamber bucks. Every additional five carbon-free commute days reported will earn participants an additional entry. Late entries will not be counted. Participants must live off campus to be eligible. Winners will be notified via email.

The drawing will close each month 10 days after the month ends. For example, January's entry dates had to be submitted before Feb. 10th.
