Samuel E Woods Awards

2021 Samuel E Wood Award Application Open!

The Samuel E. Wood Award for Student Leadership looks to recognize our Student Leaders who will be graduating in the coming Spring and following Fall, for their non-academic contributions to the community at UW-Stout.

This includes but is not limited to leadership in Student Organizations, Housing, Greek Life, Preforming Arts, Athletics, On-Campus Employment, and so on. We want to hear your involvement stories and see how you have improved as a person, helped improve others, or the campus! This is a very prestigious award only given to less than 1% of graduates each year, it is also the highest non-academic award any student at UW-Stout can achieve!

There is an application process which will also require at least two letters of recommendation from people who are aware of our involvement in the Stout Community, and a cover letter along with the application so those who will be reviewing the applications can get a better sense of you and our involvement at Stout! More details such as the application, style guide, specific examples of what we are looking for and more can all be found on the SSA Connect Website. If you have any questions about the application, award, or process please reach out to Chris Johnson Vice President of Stout Student Association.

UW-Stout COVID Update

Q. I’m having a hard time and struggling with classes, personal challenges, the cold weather, the pandemic, and my normal coping strategies for dealing with the stress and anxiety just aren’t working. Are there resources are available to me?

A. There are numerous resources available to students to assist with the everyday challenges that come with being a college student as well as the additional stressors faced by students during the pandemic.  Some of the resources available to you are:

  • Counseling Services is located in 410 Bowman Hall. Call 715-232-2468 to schedule an appointment.  Counselors are available to assist you one on one with personal challenges.

  • Student Health Services is located on North campus. Call 715-232-2134 for an appointment.

  • SilverCloud, a free, on-line, self-guided resource for stress management is available 24-7.   https://liveuwstout.sharepoint.com/sites/2022/012/SitePages/Silver-Cloud.aspx

  • For on-campus students, your Resident Advisor or ARC may be able to offer practical advice on how to manage daily stressors.

  • Academic Tutoring Services are provided across subject matters and formats. For more information, visit: https://liveuwstout.sharepoint.com/sites/2022/Advisement/SitePages/Tutoring-Resources.aspx

  • Consider joining a student organization.  Student organizations can offer a great outlet for getting engaged outside of your coursework.

Q. Now that’s it cold outside, I’m struggling to find safe ways to connect with others and stay active. What are some options?

  1. University Recreation has a variety of events to help keep you moving and connected with others this winter. Please visit University Recreation’s Connect page for more details.

Q. I’ve heard there is a way to watch live stream campus events. How do I access this?

A. We encourage students to support our Stout athletes by watching the Blue Devil athletics sporting events online. This link provides access to the calendar of sporting events and links to watch the events online. Go Blue Devils!
