UW-Stout COVID Update

Q. When will information be shared on what our Fall semester will look like?

A. We are planning on returning to as close to “normal” operations as possible: course schedule and delivery with our typical array of offerings and modalities, an increase of campus-based activities, and most employees who have been temporarily working remotely returning to their onsite work. We anticipate that communications and updates will occur through the remainder of the spring semester, as well as throughout the summer.

Q. Where can I find more information about COVID precautions during commencement?
A. Additional information regarding the commencement ceremonies, including COVID precautions, are available online.

Q. Will students who are vaccinated be required to participate in testing in the fall?
A. The fall testing requirements are still in development; however, at this time we are planning for an exemption process for fully vaccinated students who voluntarily provide proof of vaccination.

Career Ready Wednesday

Top 5 resources for finding Co-op/Internship for your major:

Many programs at UW- Stout encourage and/or require you to complete a Co-op/Internship experience. Employers highly value those experiences as proof or evidence of your skills in a workplace setting. That said, many students get trapped into reviewing a limited number of websites to find opportunities. Below is a list of some top places to find opportunities, both active, posted positions and those ‘hidden’ opportunities. Take a look. If you need more assistance, Career Services can help.

  1. Employer Websites – obvious, however, finding companies you are not familiar with takes some work – check out Careerlink’s Employer database and the ReferenceUSA database – giving you access to 15M companies in the US
  2. Top Internship Sites – there are many out there, but here are ones you may not know of:
    1. Internships.com
    2. WayUp
    3. LinkedIn
    4. Idealist.org
    5. usajobs.gov
  3. Find companies for your major, in WI through Buzzfile. Free website that takes the work out of the search to find companies related to your major.
  4. Professional Organizations – Every industry, interest, activity and cause has a group of likeminded people that can help you connect. Start with JobStars complete list or a simple google search of “professional associations related to….”
  5. Networking, Interest based and Inclusive focused websites; In additional to formal professional organization, website like LinkedIn, Twitch, Diversity.com; gettinghired.com
