Habits During Quarantine
Habits can be both positive or negative, healthy or unhealthy. While in quarantine, it can be easy to fall on habits that may not be benefitting your physical or mental health and wellbeing. Below are some tips to minimize unhealthy habits and prioritizing the maintenance and building of healthy habits.
Tips to kick an unhealthy habit or start a new, healthy habit:
Prepare for discomfort – quitting a habit that you have been practicing or starting a new habit will be difficult, but you can do it!
Create a game plan – plan for success! Set a start date, check in with yourself, and track your progress.
Set realistic goals – don't try to run a marathon in one day. Pace yourself and be gentle. It is okay to have setbacks, just keep focused and moving forward.
Establish incentives – rewarding yourself for the progress you have made can be a huge motivator, use it to your advantage!
Recognize that it is a journey – if you fall back into bad habits, that is okay. Remember, sometimes it can take multiple attempts to reach your ultimate goal. You can do it!
Picking up a healthy activity in quarantine can keep you busy while learning a new skill or discovering a healthy coping mechanism! Some examples include:
Learning to play an instrument
Getting outside
Decorating the sidewalk with chalk
Taking a hike or a walk
Teaching your pet a new trick
Try out some different cooking techniques or recipes
Paint, draw, or color
Photography
Meditation
