2021 Samuel E Wood Medallion award poster

2021 Samuel E Wood Award Application Open!

The Samuel E. Wood Award for student leadership looks to recognize our student leaders who will be graduating in the coming spring and following fall, for their non-academic contributions to the community at UW-Stout.     This includes but is not limited to leadership in Student Organizations, Housing, Greek Life, Preforming Arts, Athletics, On-Campus Employment, and so on. We want to hear your involvement stories and see how you have improved as a person, helped improve others, or the campus!

This is a very prestigious award only given to less than 1% of graduates each year, it is also the highest non-academic award any student at UW-Stout can achieve! There is an application process which will also require at least two letters of recommendation from people who are aware of our involvement in the Stout Community, and a cover letter along with the application so those who will be reviewing the applications can get a better sense of you and our involvement at Stout! More details such as the application, style guide, specific examples of what we are looking for and more can all be found on the SSA Connect Website. If you have any questions about the application, award, or process please reach out to Chris Johnson Vice President of Stout Student Association.

Kiry Shabazz

Blue Devil Productions is proud to present comedian Kiry Shabazz on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:30PM in the MSC Great Hall located upstairs in the University of Wisconsin-Stout Memorial Student Center.

Kiry Shabazz grew up in the harsh, cold streets of Cleveland, Ohio. Not as a gangster, it’s just that Cleveland is absolutely freezing in the winter. While working in a restaurant in 2011 he suddenly decided to leave it all behind and change his life, starting a meteoric, and lauded, career in comedy. His charismatic and witty style, punctuated with trademark hilarious punchlines, made him one of the best up-and-coming acts in Northern California. He has been told, “your comedy changed my life.” He’s never been able to tell if that’s a good thing or bad thing, leading to the type of cyclical paranoia and insecurity that can only lead to torment and good comedy. Since 2018 he’s been rapidly gaining ground as a sought-after act. He made his late-night debut on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he won the World Series of Comedy Competition AND the 2018 Stand Up NBC series. He’s also been spotted on the Stand Up NBC Comedy Tour.

This event is sponsored by Blue Devil Productions of the University of Wisconsin-Stout and is FREE to all. This event is a part of Blue Devil Productions comedy series. Please call (715) 232-2432 or go to bdpstout.com for more information.

A powerful and thought-provoking true-story, "Just Mercy" follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley. One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx,) who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie.
