The resolution reminds us that "the judicial branch serves an essential part of the Stout Student Association’s mission, by settling cases and controversies surrounding governing documents." Indeed, the Judicial Branch is SSA's third branch, in addition to the Legislative and Executive Branches that had already been compensated prior to the passage of this resolution. In addition to settling controversies arising from differing or unclear interpretations of SSA's governing documents, University Court also interprets UW-Stout's Student Organization Code of Conduct. Allegations of misconduct on the part of student organizations are evaluated by the Court, and any sanctions levied by the university are levied by the Court.
The Stout Student Association is proud to offer compensation for student representatives. By paying representatives, more people are able to set aside the time needed to participate. This expands the opportunity to participate in the shared governance process to more students, including students who have a low income or are otherwise marginalized.
Pay rate (per semester):
Chief Justice (1) | $750 |
Vice-Chief Justice (1) | $350 |
Associate Justices (7) | $200 |
