From: Danielle Clarizio Date: September 20, 2019 Subject: Week Three Information & Updates
Thank goodness for weekends!
In just a few days we will begin Week Four! New students are finishing up their Social Security applications so that they can begin on-campus employment and our seniors are beginning their OPT workshops-- it will be December before you know it!
While the semester falls in to place please remember to find some time to enjoy your college experience and also find some time for yourself.
As usual, here are some useful reminders to help you through the next week or so...
Scholarships & Volunteers
All students who are currently received an International Student Tuition Scholarship and all students either wishing to continue their scholarship or apply for one in spring semester are required to view the International Student Tuition Scholarship Guide. The reason for this guide is simple: we want to be sure that all scholarship applicants are following the same set of rules. Please take the time to review the material and learn about how to identify volunteer opportunities.
Students in their final semester are encouraged to join Danielle for an OPT Workshop as soon as they are able. OPT applications can take 3-5 months to be processed by USCIS so the sooner you apply, the sooner you can embark on your post-degree employment authorization!
About the Workshop:
Is there a lot of information? Yes. Is it required? No. Is it recommended? Absolutely!
There is a lot of information to share with prospective OPT students and the simplest way to do this is to meet and talk through it. If you are thinking about OPT you are strongly encouraged to attend.
The International Club would like to thank you for participating in our Fall 2019 elections and is looking forward to serving you this year.
Watch your inbox for upcoming opportunities to connect with the new leadership team and each other!
Stout Has an Escape Room
Did you know that Stout has an escape room? In the Stout Escape Room, groups of 2-9 people discover clues to solve a mystery or “escape the room” within a predetermined amount of time. Of course, they are never actually locked in (they may leave at any point) but they are immersed in the experience to solve problems, think critically, and work together as a team. The initiative is a campus collaboration for student, professional staff, and community use and is facilitated and managed by students.
The Stout Escape Room has been posting opening times on CONNECT so now might be a good time to see if you can crack the case and get out in time!
