Subject: Week 14: Updates & Reminders from ISSS

Hi First_Name,

THE FINISH LINE

Can you even believe that next week is Final Exam Week? Of course, the end of this semester feels different to semesters in the past. Don't worry, we're all feeling that way.

But as we inch closer to the close of this semester, there are still things to keep you updated on:

IS YOUR I-20 EXPIRING?

Please check your I-20 for the End Date. The End Date is the date that you should be finishing your program on; if your I-20 is expiring in May 2020 and you need an extension, please contact Danielle immediately for options!

As a reminder, in order to maintain your status, you must complete the extension process by the Program End Date listed on your I-20.

DO YOU NEED A NEW FINANCIAL GUARANTEE?

SACM students ONLY: please ask yourself if you need an new Financial Guarantee for the fall semester. Not sure? Good news! I will be emailing all students requiring a new Financial Guarantee before Monday, May 11. Please watch your email for a message from me regarding the status of your Financial Guarantee!

As per usual, Danielle will be requesting digital transcripts for SACM students. If you are currently a SACM student, you will receive your transcript through email a few weeks after the semester ends. Please remember that you must have an account balance of $0 in order to receive your digital transcript. Please take care of any outstanding financial obligations before we reach the end of the semester!

SUMMER GARDEN PROJECT

ƒî× Will you be in Menomonie over the summer?
ƒî▒ Do you like to be outside?
ƒî╝ Do you like getting your hands dirty?
ƒÑò Have you ever wanted to grow your own vegetables?

You may know that Danielle is a member of the Menomonie Community Garden, a sizeable community of allotment gardens located on 9th Street E, south of Dick's Fresh Market. Members of the MCG rent plots of land to practice organic gardening and I have secured a half plot for our international students who will be here over the summer.

I have my own full plot to look after so I am looking for 3-5 students who would be interested and able to assist with looking after the student gardern from planting, to weeding, to harvesting fresh vegetables and herbs! (Don't worry, I can teach you!) My hope is that we will grow enough fresh food that we can share it amongst students who will be here over the summer. But there is much work to be done before we have anything to harvest, so if you are interested in helping with this project, please email Danielle by Monday, May 11 so that we can develop a plan!

SUMMER TUITION SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

We know that this semester has been difficult in ways that we could not have imagined on January 27 when it began. And we also know that many students are worried about getting home this summer, or indeed, what they will do if they cannot get home just yet.

Because of this, we have created a one-time summer scholarship for Stout students who are stuck in the US the summer. The value of the COVID-19 Relief Scholarship is:

  • $200 per credit
  • Maximum six (6) credits
  • Maximum award $1,200

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in UW-Stout Summer 2020 courses from within the US
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher following completion of Spring 2020
  • Not be sponsored by a home country government
  • Not be enrolled in a Customized Instruction (CI) program
  • Provide explanation of financial need

COVID-19 Relief Scholarship applications must be received by July 1, 2020 to ensure timely application to your student account. Please note that tuition for Summer 2020 is due by July 15, 2020.

COMMENCEMENT IS THIS SATURDAY

This Saturday, a total of 1,191 students will graduate from UW-Stout. And while a traditional cap and gown ceremony won’t be possible with the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not let that stop us from celebrating our graduates’ triumphs.

UW-Stout will hold a virtual graduation ceremony, Saturday, May 9

IF YOU ARE GRADUATING be sure to review the information for graduating students. If you sitll have questions, contact the Office of Registration & Records at registrar@uwstout.edu

Spring 2020 graduates will have the option to walk in either an on-campus commencement ceremony tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 8, or in a December 2020 ceremony.

J-1 EXCHANGE STUDENT TRANSCRIPTS

Transcripts

J-1 EXCHANGE STUDENTS ONLY: A Transcript is a document that records your academic performance at an institution. The OIE will request a final transcript for all J-1 students once the Spring 2020 semester has concluded and the grades have been posted. Once ready, the transcripts will be sent by Danielle to your home institution. Please do not request a transcript for your home institution unless, for some reason, the one copy that I send is not enough.

However, in  the future you might want a copy of your transcript for yourself or a future institution or employer. Thankfully, official copies of your transcript are always just a few clicks away. You can find instructions for complete a transcript request here or you can always do a search for 'transcript' on the Stout website. You will require your student ID number to request a transcript so do be sure to hang on to that information even after you leave.

If your home institution contacts you because they have not received your Stout transcript, please contact globaled@uwstout.edu and I will assist you.
