Q: When the vaccine becomes available to the general population is there somewhere I can go to review whether the vaccine is for me? A: Thanks for thinking carefully about receiving the vaccine. Vaccines are an important consideration in returning to a pre-pandemic environment. The following websites may be helpful as you consider your options:
Q:My parents have both been fully vaccinated. I likely won’t be vaccinated until late spring or early summer when it becomes available to my age group. Is it safe for me to spend time with them at home? A: Generally, yes, especially if you are the only unvaccinated individual in the room, have no underlying medical conditions, are generally healthy, have been participating regularly in antigen testing with negative results, and have been masking and social distancing—under these conditions, the risk is minimal for you to spend time with them.
Q: Is there a way to see my test results from the mandatory student, staff and faculty testing? A: Students and employees can now log in with their UW specific username and password to see their test results at this portal. Test results will be available on the portal one hour after an individual gets tested.
Q. With the number of people getting tested and vaccinated, is it necessary to continue wearing masks? A. Yes! Here are five reasons to wear a mask even after you are vaccinated:
No vaccine is 100% effective. Per large clinical trial results, 1 in 20 people who are vaccinated are still left unprotected following full vaccination.
Vaccines don’t provide immediate protection. It takes about 2 full weeks for the immune system to make the antibodies that block viral infections following the 2nd dose.
COVID vaccines may not prevent you from spreading the virus. The COVID vaccines clearly prevent severe illness and death, but more time is needed to figure out whether they prevent transmission.
COVID vaccines may work against some variants but could be less effective against others.
It is not clear at this time how long COVID vaccines can provide protection.
