Subject: Week 2: Reminders & Updates from ISSS

Hi First_Name,

Week Two: Ô£ö

Week Two is nearly over and things should be calming down with your course schedules and you should be falling into your semester rhythym. We hope that while there have surely been stressful times, you have also found plenty of time to make new friends and take advantage of opportunities both on and off campus.

This is also when many of the professional/major student organizations begin their meetings. Joining a professions student org is a great way ti make global connections in your field even before you graduate! With over 180 student orgs, there's a good chance you will find fellow students you can connect with based on your major. The weekend is looking a bit cooler than last weekend so now might be a good time to give campus-based opportunites a look-in. Did you know that Blue Devil Productions does a film on Friday nights (it's Joker this week)? For those of you looking for an outdoor experience, the Polar Plunge is happening in Wakanda Park (you can get Global Involvement Hours by volunteering!) and University Recreation is hosting a Cross Country Sku Day Trip along the Red Cedar State Trail.

WORKSHOPS, AHOY!

Every semester Danielle hosts a series of workshops. This semester, students looking to learn more about OPT, On-Campus Employment, or CPT are encouraged to attend the relevant workshop to get all of the information that they need.

The king of workshops is the OPT Workshop. F-1 students graduating in Spring/Summer 2020 are highly encouraged to attend an OPT Workshop for guidance on the application process, reglations for your time on OPT and to ask questions about the process. Please RSVP on CONNECT to attend the first OPT Workshop of the semester on February 14 or look for one coming up at a later date.

PS- OPT applications have strict deadlines, you are strongly advised to attend the first workshop you are able to!

Volunteer Opportunities are EVERYWHERE!

As a scholarship recipient you MUST COMPLETE 20 HOURS of volunteer work to fulfill your Global Involvement requirement. Is this news to you? Well, then you need to be attending Danielle's required scholarship meetings!

Scholarship Meeting 2

For International Student Tuition Scholarship recipients (and those looking to get involved on or around campus), make sure to check the ISSS CONNECT page for highlighted  opportunities. There are currently at least NINE different opportunities posted on our CONNECT page so there's really no excuse to not have some plans already in the works...

No ISSS Walk-In Hours February 11 or 12

Because of the Study Abroad Fair, Walk-In Hours will not be held on Tuesday, February 11 or Wednesday, February 12. Please plan ahead by stopping in earlier in the week or emailing Danielle with your questions or requests.

As a reminder, Walk-In Hours are intended for short questions and are held on a first come, first served basis. While there an appointment is not necessary for Walk-Ins, it is important that we keep drop-in appointments to the 1-3pm time slot so that I can manage my other work. If you cannot attend Walk-In Hours, please just send a request for a meeting, at least one day in advance, and we can schedule a time to meet.

Please also understand that some topics, such as OPT, are not suitable for Walk-Ins and you may be requested to schedule a meeting. Also remember that desk staff are here to help both me and you, whenever possible, please provide staff with enough information so that they can assist you. A large number of the things students think they need to speak with me about can actually be solved with effective communication with the desk staff.
