Weekly Mental Health Tip!

How To: Practicing Mindfulness

  • Take a seat - find a quiet calm space, and assume a comfortable seated position in which you can sit comfortably, either on the floor or a chair

  • Set a time limit - just starting out maybe try 5 or 10 minutes and slowly increase from there to 30 minutes or even more.

  • Notice your body - How do you feel? What things are happening, emotionally or physically? Is anything new showing up?

  • Have a set purpose - What are your goals for today? What are your intentions?

  • Notice your breath - feel the rhythm of your breath as it goes in and out

  • Notice if your mind wanders - let it happen but then after a few seconds bring it back to focus on your breath

  • Be kind to yourself - you won’t be perfect at it right away, allow yourself time to practice and improve
