Right now, we are getting to that part of the semester where things are beginning to feel more and more stressful. The middle of the semester can feel extremely overwhelming – you’ve been able to get a bunch of work done, see how the classes and homework are feeling, but still aware of all the other projects, papers and exams that are in front of you. In addition, people can also be struggling with other aspects of life in college – friendship complications, personal stressors and worries, etc… When all of these things hit at once, it can be very overwhelming, and sometimes it can feel like we are hitting a crisis mode.
Here are some tips to help work through a crisis:
Make a list of the things you need to do and prioritize it from most important to least important.
Talk to someone you really trust and care about, someone who will validate your worries and concerns.
Take a break and allow yourself space to connect with others or yourself.
Find some temporary distractions – a good movie, painting/drawing, listening to music, or maybe having a comforting meal.
Stay active by going for a short walk or bike ride. Physical activity is a great stress relief and helps us to work through those overwhelming moments.
Connect with crisis supports if you are really feeling overwhelmed – the back of your UW-Stout Blue Card has tremendous crisis connections.
