How to Deal with Family over Break

1. Allow yourself to have feelings about things - say out loud to yourself, “It’s okay to be [angry, hurt, annoyed, frustrated etc.] by this.”

2. Identify one reliable coping mechanism you can use when emotions start to arise - and remind yourself, the holidays won’t last forever

3. Plan out how you’re going to spend the days - make it fun!

4. Delete any social media apps that may cause extra stress

5. Come up with a scripted response to steer negative conversations away

6. Have an excuse ready for if you need to get away for a bit - volunteering to help watch a younger family member is one way or helping with the dishes
