Subject: Week 2: Updates & Reminders from ISSS

Woo Hoo, Week Two!

Now that we've made it to Week Two your schedules should be solidifying and you should be falling into your semester rhythm. If you have not yet enrolled in a full course of study, remember that classes can be added without instructor permission until September 15 and you can drop courses without penalty until September 22-- after September 22, you will be charged! As a reminder, undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum 12 credits and graduate students in a minimum 9 credits. If you are in your final semester, you are permitted to enroll in fewer credits but you will need to complete a request for a Reduced Course Load

Speaking of those in your final semester, our first OPT Workshop is this Friday-- please plan to attend if you are considering OPT after your degree program. Also, on October 2, the fees for OPT applications will climb by $140 from $410 to $550-- starting your application early doesn't just mean a faster response, it also means you'll be saving big money!

Also, if you have not yet completed the Check-In Form, please be sure to do that ASAP. I cannot register you in SEVIS until I receive your form!

COMPLETE THE OIE CHECK-IN

The terms of your F-1 visa require you be "registered" in SEVIS each semester. The OIE has a limited amount of time to do this so it is important that you follow through with the check-in process as swiftly as possible. Failure to complete this process could result in you failing to maintain your F-1 status.
Who needs to complete the Check-In Form:

  1. All F-1 UW-Stout students
  2. All F-1 UW-Stout students even if they are studying from outside of the U.S.
  3. All F-1 UW-Stout students even if they are studying all online

Please complete the Check-In Form by clicking the pink button:

SET UP YOUR VOICEMAIL

Did you know that if your voicemail is not set up on your phone, nobody can leave you a message? Well, it's true! To ensure that you receive all of your messages, please check to make sure your voicemail is set up.
While we're on the subject of voicemail...please make sure to leave a message if you call a campus office but do not get an answer. Be sure to leave your full name and a detailed explaination of your question or concern.

OUTDOOR CHATS WITH DANIELLE

As you know, due to COVID, the OIE is only holding virtual meetings/appointments this fall. However, thanks to a lovely forecast in the coming days, Danielle is holding outdoor office hours on Tuesday (September 15) and Wednesday (September 16) of this week. Each day Danielle will be at the benches between Harvey and Bowman Halls between 12:30pm-2:00pm. Please stop by to say "hi", have a chat, or bring any questions you have.

And remember, if you need more time or privacy to chat, set up an appointment using our booking app.
