Wishcycling 101
Wish-cycling is when you recycle an item hoping it can be recycled, but you're unsure if it can. It's worse than landfilling because it clogs machinery, contaminates recyclables, and slows the process. This requires manual sorting and increases trucking costs. The best practice in the moment is when in doubt, throw it out.
For the future, email recycle@uwstout.edu to learn how to properly dispose of items next time!
