Subject: Updates from the Office of International Education

Hi First_Name,

The following is a message from OIE Director, Scott Pierson:

I am writing to provide additional information in hopes of clarifying the decision from Chancellor Frank this afternoon as it pertains to our F-1 and J-1 student population.  Please read the following information and know that the UW-Stout academic community is here to support you during this challenging time:

On-Campus Housing

International students currently living on campus should have received a message from University Housing instructing them to follow up with their decision as to whether they wish to continue to live on campus through the Housing Gateway

Now that a decision has been made to continue alternative delivery of courses for the remainder of the term, we anticipate that many of you will opt to return to your home country and continue courses from your home of record.

For additional information regarding housing on campus for the remainder of the term, you may contact University Housing by phone at (715) 232-1121 or by email at housing@uwstout.edu.

Maintenance of Status

All students who continue with their classes will maintain valid, legal, active status while we transition to alternative/online delivery of courses.  Note that we are in contact with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and they have confirmed our students are maintaining compliance with the law for this exceptional period.  This applies to students who choose to return home as well as those who stay in the U.S.; however, remaining in classes is essential to continuation of status.

On-Campus Dining

Students who choose to continue to live in on-campus housing will continue to have access to on-campus meals.  Additional information will be forthcoming by Dining Services.

Continuity of Operations

The Office of International Education will remain open for the remainder of the term.  In effort to promote social distancing, we recommend that you connect us first through email.  As a reminder, our emails are: Danielle Clarizio (clariziod@uwstout.edu) or Scott Pierson (piersons@uwstout.edu). You may also call us at 715-232-2132.  Please leave a detailed message that includes your name and phone number.  We will return the call as soon as possible.

Health & Safety

Additional information will be forthcoming regarding the health and safety of our students and the academic community.  If you have any immediate questions or concerns regarding health, please feel free to contact Student Health Services at 715-232-1314. Questions or concerns regarding personal safety should be directed to Campus Police at 715-232-2222.

Our office is here to support you during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Scott
