Blue Devil Productions is proud to present our Large Show of the semester: The Astronomers with Adam Paddock.
The Astronomers are the band you can't help but root for. Led by frontman Michael Stensland and producer Ben Baker, the duo boasts a dynamic and energy-filled performance that blends pop, rock, and electronic elements, resulting in a sound that's uniquely their own.
From opening for worldwide-known names such as Dua Lipa, Waka Flocka Flame & MAX, to selling out his debut headlining show (a venue upsize occurred, too), to selling out venues as an opener all within the past year, Adam Paddock's live show is something to write home about. Trumpets, electric guitar, bass, drums, and powerhouse vocals are the core of this act.

"In a 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court ruled in May of 2023 against the Andy Warhol Foundation and the artist's use of Lynn Goldsmith's photograph of Prince. The ruling delivered a blow to appropriation artists, determining that Warhol's work was not transformative and of the same essential nature as the original. Retired Justice Paul H. Anderson of the Minnesota Supreme Court will provide context for the ruling, while art historian Dr. Cynthia Bland will focus on the dissent, written by Justice Kagan, which argues that Warhol's work is "fair use" and not copyright infringement. Should the court determine the merit of artistic contributions, or should artists be set free to borrow, transform, and be inspired by original works?"
Join us for some fun discussion! Everyone is welcome!
Re-defining embryos and fetuses as persons under the law has been a long-term aim of hard-line anti-abortion advocates. Since the repeal of Roe v Wade, these efforts have stepped up in the US, with some success. This brings to back to the fore a central dispute in abortion ethics: is abortion still morally permissible even if the embryo is a person in the full rights-holding sense? Here is a related but distinct question: should abortion be legally permissible even if the embryo is a person? In this talk, I trace four key arguments in favour of the claim that embryonic and foetal personhood is compatible with the moral and legal permissibility of abortion in almost all instances: 1. The Good Samaritan Argument, 2. The Justified Homicide Argument, 3. The Justified Toleration Argument, and 4. The Back-Street Abortion Argument. I underscore the pitfalls in each argument, and sketch what this means for the relevance of the personhood or moral status question to abortion ethics.
Dr. Greasley is Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Law at Oxford University. She has published on the abortion debate, the ethics of organ transplantation, feminist legal theory, and the morality of lying. Her books include Arguments about Abortion: Personhood, Morality, and Law (Oxford University Press, 2017), and Abortion: For and Against, with Christopher Kaczor (Cambridge University Press, 2017).
