“Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” Robert Collier
Routines can help create structure in day-to-day life and can help reduce stress and anxiety. Here are some tips that will help you get into a routine:
1. Set an alarm, and stick to it—these are great reminders to help get something started, or transition from task to task. When you set your alarm to wake up, try getting out of bed before hitting snooze.
2. Do things at the same time each day—first start by trying to eat your meals at the same time each day. Sometimes schedules can be difficult to align; try eating a snack at that time instead of a whole meal. Flexibility can be ok!
3. Give yourself a pep talk—by telling yourself, “I want to do this,” or “this will help me,” will help increase motivation to stick to your routine.
4. Set small goals—break down large goals into smaller ones. This will help you feel more successful as routine becomes more set.
5. Reward yourself! If your goal was to wake up each day by 8am, reward yourself by going out to breakfast with a friend on a weekend.
