Sometimes things don’t go as planned? That’s okay. Here are some ways to deal with let downs in a healthy way.
Embrace your emotions - failure can be accompanied by many different emotions including stress, anger, embarrassment, and anxiety. Acknowledge them and allow yourself to feel bad for a bit before working to recover.
Reframe your thoughts - having a positive attributional style of thinking leads to more resilience to emotional distress when faced with failure. Remind yourself you can learn from this and face future challenges.
Accept responsibility - it’s important to accept a level of responsibility that you can handle, not too much so that you blame yourself, but enough so that you are able to identify and acknowledge reasons why you failed.
Move forward! - create a plan for how to move on and focus your thinking on how you can put the information you learned into practice.
