-We started with introductions and the respective presidents talked about their organizations.
-For the rest of the meeting, this semester’s goals were talked about for each organization.
-SSU wanted to get going with the biking program, including the want of bike help tutorials and the want to make Menomonie more bike-friendly.
-One proposed event was a Hmong Awareness event, as many Hmong people in the community are often discriminated against and feel unsafe. Ideas like bringing back something similar to the Hmong New Year events of years past, creating community outreach through this event to make Stout and Menomonie closer, and possibly locating this event at the forum by the Farmer’s Market were all brought up. Local businesses could also be brought in to help as well. Many details still need to be fleshed out.
-A Sexual Assault Awareness event was also talked about. This could be used to bring the community together as well. The event would most likely be informative. There could be workshops like the teaching of basic self-defense techniques, and administrative asks could be brought into this event as well, meaning perhaps through this event, Stout can see some physical change as a result. Some more long-term ideas pertaining to this topic that were brought up include more lighting around campus so students coming back to their dorms at night feel safer, extending bus times, and creating a buddy system program to escort students who don’t feel safe walking home alone. Groups like Flight Club, Students for Consent, Every Second Counts, and The Bridge to Hope could be brought in as well. Many details still need to be fleshed out.
-There will probably be an SSU Board Election in the first meeting in November.
