Mental Health Tips – Self-Care
“Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.” -Brene Brown
The last weeks of the semester are here! That’s incredibly exciting, as the end is near and summer is around the corner. However, it also means that the last two weeks are likely to be busy and potentially overwhelming with all of the work and projects to be done. As such, practicing self-care is very important. Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical health and mental health. This can help you to manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact. Here are some suggestions on how you can practice self-care in your daily life:
- Get regular exercise – just 30 minutes of walking everyday can boost your mood and improve your health.
- Eat healthy, regular meals and stay hydrated – they improve energy and focus.
- Make sleep a priority.
- Engage in a relaxing activity – medication, muscle relaxation, listening to music, reading, etc…
- Set goals and priorities – decide what must get done now and what can wait. Learn to say “no.”
- Practice gratitude – remind yourself daily of what you’re grateful for.
- Stay connected – reach out to friends and family members that can provide emotional support and practical help.
