Uncertainty Is Not Chaos

The School of Art and Design’s Sabbatical Exhibition series presents Uncertainty Is Not Chaos, featuring recent work by Daniel Atyim, Associate Professor in the department of Visual and Performing Arts. On view at the Furlong Gallery from March 13 to April 19, 2025, the exhibition opens with a reception on March 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Furlong Gallery will also host a Meet the Artist event with Atyim on April 11 at 3 p.m.

Atyim’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures balance precision with playfulness, embracing unpredictability. His compositions, marked by striking color relationships, layered surfaces, and an acute sense of rhythm, reflect an intuitive process where impulse and structure converge.

Atyim’s approach to painting revels in the act of making—an embrace of the present moment that is rooted in repetition. His works carry a distinct cadence, at times sharp-witted, at times disarmingly sincere, often walking a fine line between the obscure and the familiar. Uncertainty Is Not Chaos invites viewers to step into this space of tension and possibility, where vibrant hues, shifting structures, and bold gestures create a visual dialogue that resists easy categorization.

Student-Employer Mock Interviews

UW-Stout Career Services is hosting a virtual student-employer mock interview event. This event is designed to provide students within the following programs with valuable feedback on their interviewing skills:

- Business Administration
- Real Estate Property Management
- Fashion Design & Development
- Graphic Communications

Each mock interview session will be 45 minutes long, consisting of 30-minute interview followed by 10 minutes for feedback and 5 minutes for transition.

Throughout the semester, you can find Career Coaches around campus or in the Career Services Office for drop-in meetings.

Usually, they're out around the lunch hour on Tuesdays and Fridays. Stop by for a few minutes to ask your career questions!

Last call to register for UW Symposium by March 15

Registration is closing on March 15 for the UW event. Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity in Madison on May 3. The event is for undergraduates from all majors to present via poster, oral presentation, art/project display, or performance.

ORSP will provide transportation and poster printing to selected students, who will also be asked to present at Stout's Research Day.

Mental Health Tips—Spring Break 

“Spring Break is the perfect time to relax and recharge.” 

Spring break is approaching fast. Here are some safety and self-care steps that you can take to help you have a healthy spring break.  

Safety 

  • Travel with others: there is safety in numbers. If you are in a new place, or meeting new people, try to surround yourself with people you trust such as your family or close friends. 
  • Stay hydrated: whether you’re in a warm place or just at home, now is a good time to focus on getting in enough water.  
  • Wear sunscreen: protect you skin by wearing sunscreen. Even the March sun can burn the skin if you are outside for long periods of time.  
  • Consume alcohol safely: If you are drinking, drink in moderation and be aware of your limits. 

Self-Care  

Here are some self-care ideas to engage in over break. Make it a goal to try one self-care things a day while you’re on break!  

  • Cuddle with your pets  
  • Watch your favorite movie with a friend or family member. 
  • Drink a hot cup of coffee or tea. 
  • Catch up on reading your favorite book. 
  • Step away from screens 
  • Get outside.
