Bridging the Divide seeks to reduce partisan division by fostering civil discourse among students and promoting civic virtue. The program brings students with different ideological and partisan political perspectives together for small group conversations about current political issues and beliefs. Rather than reaching a consensus, the goal is simply to replace snark with civil dialogue and increase engagement and understanding between people with different opinions. We replace snark with conversation, tweets with real talk, and scrolls & likes with face-to-face dialogue. In addition, we like to make it fun and enjoyable with FREE SNACKS!!

Philosophers' Café: What Responsibility Does Society Have Toward Children?

Clock Wednesday, February 11
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Location pin Brewery Nonic
Calendar Add to Google Cal,Outlook,Yahoo,iCal

The Philosophers' Café is a public forum in which community members discuss interesting contemporary issues in a relaxed and informal setting. Dr. Tina Lee will lead the discussion. Here is the abstract:

Beginning with some data on persistent gender disparities in the workplace and data from my lab on people’s reactions to various gender disparities, we can discuss a variety of questions: which gender disparities do we as a society tend to worry about, and which disparities tend to go unnoticed? What are the possible causes of gender disparities in job representation, and which of those are presumed to be the primary causes of different types of disparities (e.g., male-dominated vs female-dominated jobs)? Should our final goal be gender parity in representation for all jobs? If only some jobs, which ones? When in tension, how do we reconcile societal concern for group parity with concern for individual choice?

Join us for some fun discussion! Everyone is welcome!

Mental Health Tips - Groups

“Connecting with others is rewarding; it makes us feel like we’re not alone in the world.” – Jonah Berger

In the Student Counseling Center at UW-Stout, we offer many different modes of therapy to support the students, but one of the modes of connection and support that people often don’t think about are groups. Individual therapy is absolutely wonderful, but group therapy can often be more powerful than individual therapy, as it can support people in a way that promotes community, learning from others and helping to reduce stigma both personally and with others. It is an incredible way to work on your personal mental health goals, and find support and connection. Please see below for more benefits of group counseling:

  • Helps participants realize that others have similar struggles and issues.
  • Helps you relate to others (and yourself!) in healthier ways.
  • Everyone will be at different places in treatment, and can offer unique perspectives, skills, and ways of coping.
  • Offers the opportunity to both receive and give support.
  • Provides a safety net for individuals who maybe anxious or worried about sharing their feelings.
  • Develop selflessness and compassion.
