Details

Join the UW-Stout Symphonic Singers and Chamber Choir in a special evening to commemorate the centennial of World War I. This program, titled "Silent Night", features mostly music from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany composed during World War I.

The program is loosely centered on the Christmas Truce stories, in which soldiers from all sides ceased fire over Christmas to sing Christmas carols, greet each other, and even exchange gifts and socialize. Popular carols from each of the highlighted countries are included in the musical selection, and the audience will be invited to sing along.

The event will be the result of a close collaboration between Stout's choral program and the Dunn County Historical Society, as well as the Stout University Archives. Both organizations are involved in researching relevant historical materials from Menomonie area — newspaper, event programs, personal letters, photographs and more — some of which will be read during the concert. There will also be a small exhibit during and after the concert, displaying artifacts from the war.

This concert event is listed as one of the official United States World War I Centennial Commission events; more information about the nationwide initiative can be found at www.worldwar1centennial.org.

Tickets are available for $5.00 at the UW-Stout Service Center in the Memorial Student Center (715)232-1122, on the web at tickets.uwstout.edu and at the door.
