DESCRIPTION:What is the relationship between liberty and slavery in the birth of the United States? Leaders of the founding have come under intense scrutiny for their simultaneous championing of American liberty while also enslaving Black people in their personal and professional lives. What did the leaders of this new nation think about slavery? How did they reconcile this with their convictions in American liberty?\n\nJoin us for a discussion with Dr. Edward J. Larson, Hugh and Hazel Darling Chair in Law and University Professor at Pepperdine University. Larson is the author of seven books and is the recipient of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize in History. \n\nThis event is Wednesday, November 15th, from 3:00-4:30pm at the Memorial Student Center (Ballroom A). There are 20 free copies of Dr. Larson's book, which you can pick up Instructional Resource Services, 3rd floor of the Library (these are first come, first serve).
