SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Philosophers' Café: Can Wartime Dehumanization Be Avoided?
LOCATION:Brewery Nonic, 621 4th St W, Menomonie, WI 54751, United States
URL:https://connect.uwstout.edu/rsvp?id=2273906
DESCRIPTION:The Philosophers' Café is a public forum in which community members discuss interesting contemporary issues in a relaxed and informal setting. Dr. David Seim will lead the discussion. Here is the abstract:\n\nBeginning with brief consideration of one case of wartime dehumanization (namely, candid admissions by Vietnam War veterans), our conversation might consider a few questions: How does a military organization mentally prepare life-valuing human beings to kill other human beings because they are the enemy? How do wartime events unfold such that combatants cease to perceive enemy combatants as fully human? Are there potential factors prior to military events that can worsen the extent of dehumanization? \n\nJoin us for some fun discussion! Everyone is welcome!\n---\nEvent Details: https://connect.uwstout.edu/rsvp?id=2273906
