The Philosophers' Café is a public forum in which community members discuss interesting contemporary issues in a relaxed and informal setting. Chris Engen (Special Assistant to the Provost; Colonel, U.S. Army, Ret.) will lead the discussion. Here is the abstract:

Evolving national and community-level security and public safety concerns, the increased use of military equipment and uniforms by law enforcement personnel, and the inclusion of some military capabilities in domestic security missions may challenge the ability to readily distinguish between these two institutions, their traditional roles, and differing purpose. What are the potential implications upon the organizations and their personnel, communities, and public perceptions? We will explore the legal, operational, and cultural considerations.

Join us for some fun discussion! Everyone is welcome!
