The Philosophers' Café is a public forum in which community members discuss interesting contemporary issues in a relaxed and informal setting. Dr. Lopa Basu will lead the discussion. Here is the abstract:

As we approach the 25th anniversary of the deadliest act of terrorism on U.S. soil, how do we look back on that catastrophic event and its aftermath? How do we evaluate the immediate aftermath of 9/11, the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act and the curtailment of civil liberties within the U.S. along with the War on Terror waged in Afghanistan and Iraq? What are the long-term effects of the Homeland Security State that we are living in? How do our present wars connect with our past? How can we envision peace in a world of perpetual war?

Join us for some fun discussion! Everyone is welcome!
