We are excited to invite the campus to a unique international event. On Monday, November 4th, the Honorable Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, governor of Kenya's third-largest metropolitan area, Kisumu County, will present from 10 a.m. to noon in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center.

His thought-provoking presentation and panel discussion will include a global perspective on business leadership and ethics, first-hand experience in governance and business within a developing nation, and the role of tourism in East Africa.

The governor has an accomplished background that includes roles in the Kenyan government, including Parliament, the Senate, Minister of Medical Services and Minister of Planning and National Development. He has actively engaged in scholarly activity and the democratization of Kenya, including the second liberation during the previous KANU regime. He holds a master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Chicago in political science.

However, he is perhaps best known as the father of Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave", "Star Wars" and "Black Panther"). Accompanying the governor will be a delegation of three additional Kenyan governors as well as their chiefs of staff.

Faculty are encouraged to attend and support student participation in this special opportunity to learn about Kenya and gain an enhanced understanding of business, social, and economic aspects of a developing nation.
