The Queer Music Workshop will feature music by queer composers. Some were celebrated composers whose queer identity was erased. Some lived as openly queer people in the conflicting era during which queerness had to be hidden in their work. And we will learn about recent works by individuals that thrive in artistic freedom, exploring their identities in sound.

NOTE: Prior to the workshop, registered students will receive a document with links to readings and music to review to prepare for the workshop.

Deadline to apply is March 10, but only 16 students will be accepted, so don't wait to apply! Students who complete the workshop will receive a $100 stipend. Please provide your student ID number when applying.

This is a non-credit bearing educational enrichment experience.

Dr. Jerry Hui has been teaching music and sound design for ten years. As a gay composer and musician, he has a strong interest in the history of queer musicians, and how composers express their diverse identities to varying degrees in their musical works.
